HSBC is the latest company to relocate its core business operations to The Spiral, a 65-story supertall office skyscraper in Midtown West, Manhattan. Located at 66 Hudson Boulevard within the Hudson Yards district and mega-complex, the tower is designed by Bjarke Ingels Group and developed by Tishman Speyer.

HSBC’s office suite will occupy more than 265,000 square feet across three floors, and will serve as the institution’s United States headquarters. The three floors are located within the tower’s podium, which feature a virtually column-free floor plan for maximum flexibility.

To date, Tishman Speyer has successfully pre-leased 70 percent of the tower’s 2.8 million square feet and anticipates occupancy to begin this summer.

“As we embark on the next chapter of HSBC in the US, we believe it is the right time to relocate our hybrid workforce to a headquarters designed for the future,” said Michael Roberts, HSBC CEO, US and Americas. “This new space demonstrates our commitment to the US and is an investment in strengthening our employee and customer experience while also bringing us closer to our net-zero objectives.”

HSBC’s lease was negotiated on 20-year terms with JLL representing the institution. The Spiral’s premier tenants also include Pfizer, which will establish its global headquarters across 14 floors of the building, global law firm Debevoise & Plimpton LLP, which has confirmed 13 floors, research and investment conglomerate AllianceBernstein, and Turner Construction, among others.

“The Spiral delivers a new level of human-centric design and programming at a moment when companies are making their workforces’ health and wellbeing a priority,” said Tishman Speyer CEO Rob Speyer. “While our future customers at The Spiral represent a wide range of industries, their commitment to the building demonstrates their acute understanding of what their people need to innovate and thrive at work.”

When complete, all tenants will have access to “ZO. Clubhouse,” an amenity center offering a top-floor lounge, an outdoor terrace, dining options, event and conferencing spaces, and reservable space for private events.

  1. The pinnacle here doesn’t pinnacle enough..

Unless their employees use Penn Station, it will now be even harder to get them to show up to their cushy office once in a while.
We’ll see if the next recession will motivate people to again be present for management.

  3. The building doesn’t pinacle enough, and we’ll see over time if the greenery stays, grows, and flourishes or flies away…..I’m in awe of the less than Walgreens presence that HSBC gets at the street level….for over 250,000 sq ft of rental they get a store front and a decal on the glass…..a bank that is serious?

  4. Great move by HSBC , into a terrific development

  5. You can spin this all you like, but it is bad news for NYC. HSBC is downsizing from 548,000 square feet in midtown.

  6. Three little floors on the ground level? This is a “world’s headquarters” or a Duane Read?
