Excavation is progressing for Northwell Medical Pavilion, a 15-story medical facility for Lenox Hill Hospital at 1345 Third Avenue on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Designed by Ennead Architects with EwingCole as the medical architect and Northwell Health and The University Financing Foundation as the developers, the 200,000-square-foot outpatient center will stand nearly 215 feet tall and offer specialized cancer care services, imaging and lab testing, cardiac care, neuroscience programs, a sleep study center, acute and chronic disease management, social work services, and more. JB&B is the MEP engineer, Severud Associates is the structural engineer, and  Lendlease is the general contractor for the $450 million project, which is located in Lenox Hill between East 76th and East 77th Streets.

Recent photographs show multiple excavators working below street level across the site. Wooden formwork has been assembled to aid in the formation of the perimeter walls, which should begin to take shape along with the rest of the foundations over the remainder of the summer.

The main rendering depicts the northern corner with an expansive glass curtain wall facing Madison Avenue above the triple-height ground floor, and what appears to be red terracotta over West 77th Street. An upper setback is shown topped with a landscaped terrace, followed by an additional glass-clad volume that rises to a bulkhead enclosed in earth-toned paneling. The slender northern profile along West 77th Street features a composite of light-colored stone slabs, horizontal strips of windows, and red terracotta paneling toward the back of the building. A canopy protrudes over the main entrance on Third Avenue, and a separate staff entrance will be positioned on West 77th Street.

The Northwell Medical Pavilion will offer care for numerous cancer types including breast, gastrointestinal, colorectal, gynecologic oncology, head and neck, neurosurgery, and thoracic. Surgery and inpatient care in Manhattan will continue to be provided by other Northwell hospitals, including the neighboring Lenox Hill Hospital and Manhattan Eye, Ear & Throat Hospital.

The nearest subway is the 6 train at the 77th Street station to the west along Lexington Avenue.

1345 Third Avenue’s anticipated completion date is slated for the spring of 2026, as noted on site.

  1. This looks like a very handsome design. It fits the surrounding area quite nicely as well and of course it’s a medical center which is beneficial, too.

  2. How many more medical facilities are they going to wedge in the UES.

I never thought a Long Island hospital would expand to Manhattan. The reverse is far more common. I guessed what the proposed building was even before seeing the title.

  4. separate staff entrance on “WEST 77TH ST”??? As a UWSider who lives on W77th, how I would love this to be so!! But I’m sure it’s an error and y’all mean EAST 77th.:-(

Medical facility with what I want to see is appeared, on the design by going through a rendering. By going to photos show excavation for setting out plan of medical services, via views with words to describe. I agreed to be so red terracotta and earth-toned worthy of exterior, but light from glass curtain wall can reduce their flames: Thanks to Michael Young.

“The main rendering depicts the front elevation along Madison Avenue”? West 77th Street?
