The Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation (BNYDC) is seeking design and development partners to advance the transformation of its sprawling industrial complex. A request for proposals was circulated earlier this month and calls for initial conceptual designs for industrial and commercial properties at the waterfront convergence of Kent, Washington, and Railroad Avenues, near the northeastern edge of Brooklyn Navy Yard.

This specific parcel, the focus of the RFP, is referred to as the A3 site.

BNYDC has already partnered with WXY Architecture + Urban Design to identify its core design and operational goals. Today the corporation’s primary objective is to redevelop a large swath of existing properties into modern industrial and commercial buildings, as well as publicly accessible outdoor space, to help drive the creation of a true neighborhood. The corporation also estimates the plan could also create around 30,000 new jobs.

“Our master plan will further cement the Yard as a leader in New York City and across the country when it comes to providing the high-quality urban manufacturing jobs of the future,” said Lindsay Greene, president and CEO of the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation. “Businesses at the Yard promote high-skilled, high-wage jobs and diverse entrepreneurship, all while working toward solutions for our biggest economic challenges. We look forward to supporting that mission through this next phase of development.”

The deadline for companies to respond is November 3, 2023, with a mandatory pre-submission conference on October 10.

  1. Such a ‘powerful’ location..Please do this right!

Glad to see more development with underutilized land, but we just keep redeveloping waterfront that is barely above current sea level. As usual, nobody thinks of the future.

  3. David in Bushwick: Of course, this is not the case. When Steiner Studios was developed at the Navy Yard the property was raised 3′ across 14 acres to put in the 500-year flood plain. Current NYC building code requires all new buildings to have the 100 year flood plain as the minimum base level unless designed to be flood-proof. Not everyone is a moron except those living in Bushwick
