Permits have been filed to expand a three-story structure into four-story residential building at 339 Herkimer Street in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. Located between Brooklyn and Kingston Avenues, the lot is steps from the Kingston-Throop Avenues subway station, serviced by the A and C trains. Joseph Aghelian is listed as the owner behind the applications, and also owns the adjacent 341 Herkimer Street.
The proposed 45-foot-tall development will yield 8,915 square feet designated for residential space. The building will have eight residences, most likely rentals based on the average unit scope of 595 square feet. The masonry-based structure will also have a cellar, penthouse, and a 34-foot-long rear yard.
Thomas C. Tung, P.E. is listed as the architect of record.
Demolition permits will likely not be needed as the permit calls for a vertical expansion. An estimated completion date has not been announced.

The fact that Yimby is covering minor alterations like this as “news” along with excavations, etc shows how bad things are. In ‘normal’ times it’s all about new construction, 4 stories at least.
We need to renew 421-a or a version of it because we desperately need more construction.
Some of the expansions are newsworthy
