The affordable housing lottery has launched for The Axel, a 29-story residential building at 550 Clinton Avenue in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. Designed by Morris Adjmi Architects and developed by Hope Street Capital, the structure yields 284 residences. Available on NYC Housing Connect are six units for residents at 130 percent of the area median income (AMI), ranging in eligible income from $48,206 to $198,250.
Residents will have access to a business center, media room, gym, party room, rooftop terrace, and a saltwater pool. Units include name-brand appliances and finishes, air conditioning, and hardwood floors. Tenants are responsible for electricity.
At 70 percent of the AMI, there is one studio with a monthly rent of $1,320 for incomes ranging from $48,206 to $79,100; and two one-bedrooms with a monthly rent of $1,409 for incomes ranging from $51,669 to $88,970.
At 80 percent of the AMI, there is one two-bedroom with a monthly rent of $1,939 for incomes ranging from $70,903 to $122,000
At 130 percent of the AMI, there is one studio with a monthly rent of $2,644 for incomes ranging from $90,652 to $146,900; and one two-bedroom with a monthly rent of $3,381 for incomes ranging from $115,920 to $198,250.
Prospective renters must meet income and household size requirements to apply for these apartments. Applications must be postmarked or submitted online no later than February 1, 2024.

Thousands of people apply and look how many units are available! I know it’s a lottery, but people aren’t looking for some unrealistic jackpot; they just need a safe, comfortable and stable roof over their heads.
