Permits have been filed to expand a two-story structure into a six-story mixed-use building at 855 53rd Street in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Located between 8th and 9th Avenues, the interior lot is near the 8th Avenue subway station, serviced by the N train. Raymond Liu is listed as the owner behind the applications.

The proposed 55-foot-tall development will yield 11,870 square feet, with 8,708 square feet designated for residential space and 3,161 square feet for community facility space. The building will have 13 residences, most likely rentals based on the average unit scope of 669 square feet. The steel-based structure will also have a cellar and a 37-foot-long rear yard.

Fei Chan of FC Architect is listed as the architect of record.

Demolition permits will likely not be needed as the project calls for a vertical expansion. An estimated completion date has not been announced.

  1. What a streetscape

    • Maybe if they add a few more tangled up wires to those telephone poles, the hideously disfigured buildings will disappear from view.

  2. Sunset Park desperately needs more housing—everything helps!

I agree the quality of these 6 story buildings are spotty and cheap with brick ingredients that weeps white drainage down the bricks
