The New York City Landmark Preservation Commission is reviewing a proposal for façade renovations and and alterations to 83 and 85 Chambers Street, adjoining five-story residential buildings in Tribeca, Manhattan. Both buildings feature eight units and extend from Chambers Street to Reade Street, on the other side of the block. The proposal was assembled by GreenbergFarrow for United American Land LLC, and was presented to the LPC on March 5, 2024.
The renovation proposal outlines changes for the façades of each building on both Chambers Street and Reade Street. On Chambers Street, the proposal outlines plans to remove an existing fire escape, repair exterior brick, and repair/replace the existing limestone and metal storefronts for each building.
On Reade Street, the proposal outlines plans to remove existing fire escapes and add new wood and metal storefronts at street-level, replacing the aging storefronts. In addition, it outlines changes to the buildings’ windows, replacing windows with more modern energy-efficient windows.
The proposal also provides historical images of the buildings, highlighting how their façades and storefronts have changed over time, and providing context for this iteration of potential changes.
83-85 Chambers Street are located centrally in Tribeca, in close proximity to the 1, 2, 3, A, C, E, R, and W trains.
