Work is nearing completion on The Gregory, a school-turned-rental conversion in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. Located at 991 Saint Johns Place, St. Gregory the Great School was built in 1921 by Helme & Corbett. In 2011, the building was declared structurally compromised, requiring immediate vacancy. The conversion came to fruition with a team that includes GEMA Capital Partners and PKSB Architecture. Construction consisted of a complete structural overhaul, full façade restoration, a complementary two-story addition, and three-story horizontal expansion.
The Gregory offers 40 distinctive residences in studio to three-bedroom layouts. All rentals have oversized historic replica windows and ceiling spans ranging from 9 to 13 feet in height.
Amenities include a fourth-floor terrace, ground-floor side garden and rear patio, fitness studio, on-site security, package area, shared laundry room, on-site parking, and bicycle storage.
Situated within the Crown Heights North Historic District, The Gregory is near the Brooklyn Museum and Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. Residents will have access to the 2 and 5 trains at the President Street subway station and the 3 train at Kingston and Nostrand Avenues.
Rents begin at $3,437 per month, and Shloma Hecht from The Corcoran Group is exclusively handling leasing at the property.

Google Streetview suggests the school was completely demolished and rebuilt with a steel frame. The load-bearing walls of the original had developed dangerous cracks. The entrance portico was preserved. The new structure is compatible with the church. A doorman might be garbed as a nun and brandish a wooden ruler.
It appears they put it back together
The building looks goods
