Permits have been filed to convert a five-story garage into a six-story residential building at 220 East 9th Street in Manhattan’s East Village neighborhood. Located between Second and Third Avenues, the lot is a short walk to the Astor Place subway station, served by the 6 train. Roger Bittenbender of Arcus Development is listed as the owner behind the applications.
The proposed 74-foot-tall development will yield 31,231 square feet designated for residential space. The building will have 18 residences, most likely condos based on the average unit scope of 1,735 square feet. The concrete-based structure will also have a cellar, a 22-foot-long rear yard, and ten enclosed parking spaces.
Colberg Architecture is listed as the architect of record.
Demolition permits will likely not be needed as the project calls for an expansion. An estimated completion date has not been announced.
