Permits have been filed for a four-story mixed-use building to be used as a transient hotel at 4932 Arthur Kill Road in Charleston, Staten Island. Located between South Bridge Street and Richmond Valley Road, the lot is near the Richmond Valley subway station, served by the Staten Island Railway. Nirmal Singh under the Richmond Valley Rd LLC is listed as the owner behind the applications.

The proposed 44-foot-tall development will yield 20,529 square feet, with 18,537 square feet designated for commercial space and 1,992 square feet for community facility space. The building will have 46 lodgings, with an average room size of 402 square feet. The concrete-based structure will also have a cellar, a 20-foot-long rear yard, and 11 enclosed parking spaces.

M.S. Savani Architect is listed as the architect of record.

Demolition permits will likely not be needed as the lot is vacant. An estimated completion date has not been announced.

    I wouldn’t recommend calling SIR Richmond Valley a “subway station”, not only is it a separate system altogether, it isn’t even underground for 99% of its run!

    Also, unless this “transient hotel” is well supported by either a well-run organization or a has a clientele that is harmless (elderly, mentally and/physically handicapped, etc.), its easy to see this building becoming very unpopular with the neighbors!

  2. sir is heavy rail subway cars same as the rest of the system. its just pedantic semantics to say it isnt and anyway a lot of nyc subway stops are not underground.
