Construction is moving along at 285 Metropolitan Avenue, where a two-story commercial building is being expanded into a four-story residential building in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Designed by Nikolai Katz Architect for Mendel Fleischman of The Garden Bond, the 75-foot-tall structure will span 7,604 square feet and yield eight rental units with an average scope of 823 square feet. The development will also include 780 square feet of commercial space, a cellar level, and a 40-foot-long rear yard. The property is located between Roebling Street and Driggs Avenue.
The steel-framed superstructure stands built to its pinnacle and covered in scaffolding and plastic sheets as crews work to enclose the exterior. A vacant plot sits directly to the west of the project site.
The following Google Street View image shows the two-story commercial occupant of the property before work began. The white façade is still visible behind the scaffolding.
No finalized renderings have been revealed for 285 Metropolitan Avenue with the exception of the rudimentary elevation diagram below. This drawing shows the building with a symmetrical grid of windows flanking a central column of balconies. A garage entrance sits at the eastern end of the ground floor, and the structure culminates in a mechanical bulkhead set back from the flat parapet on the western side of the property.
The nearest subways from the development are the L train at the Bedford Avenue station and the G and L trains at the Metropolitan Avenue and Lorimer Street stations.
285 Metropolitan Avenue’s anticipated completion date is slated for winter 2025, as noted on site.
