Construction Underway at 96 Moore Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn

Construction is underway at 96 Moore Street, where a one-story structure is being expanded into a five-story residential building in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Designed by Nikolai Katz Architect for Moore and Moore LLC, the 50-foot-tall structure will span 6,121 square feet and yield eight rental units with an average scope of 687 square feet. The building will also contain 625 square feet of ground-floor commercial space, a cellar level, and a 40-foot-long rear yard. The property is located between Humboldt Street and Avenue of Puerto Rico.

Wooden sidewalk fencing has been assembled in front of the ground floor of the building and its interiors have been gutted ahead of the start of the vertical expansion. Structural reinforcements will need to be carried out before the new floors are added, which could occur later this year.

No renderings have been revealed for the new design apart from the below black and white elevation diagram posted on site. The illustration shows a symmetrical fenestration with floor-to-ceiling windows for the ground-floor frontage and a lone setback at the fifth floor, where a terrace will be located. It’s unclear what façade materials will be used.

The commercial property formerly featured two storefronts but had sat vacant since 2020.

The nearest subways from the development are the J and M trains at the Flushing Avenue station to the south and the L train at the Montrose Avenue station to the north.

96 Moore Street’s anticipated completion date is slated for summer 2025, but YIMBY believes construction will finish sometime next year.

So expansion is the new zoning trick, like cantilevers.

  2. I can’t wait to live next door to the live poultry market! Convenience!

  3. The place on the right sells live chickens! The risk of disease alone makes this an awful location to live.

    • Not to mention the smell. Chicken coops are notoriously stinky.

    • I agree. I was born in WillyB more than 70 years ago and we had a live chicken facility on our block. The father of Barbara Eden from “I dream of Jeannie” owed it. Yes I met her as a teen and she was a regular woman; not an actress. My brother worked one summer in chicken place cutting necks of live chickens and cleaning them for selling. Yes those were the days and we lived through them. Today there is chicken flu etc.

  4. I grew up in this neighborhood more than 70 years ago and am sort of happy to see the improvements being made. I still won’t return there to live.
