New renderings have been revealed for The Tryst Fire Island, a forthcoming hotel redevelopment in Fire Island Pines, Long Island. Designed by Marvel, the three-story building will be operated by Tryst Hospitality and will yield 30 redesigned guest rooms, a complete exterior overhaul, and an integrated vision for the adjacent Waterfront at The Pines consisting of The Blue Whale, The Pavilion, The Pool Deck, The Canteen, and The Gym. The aging building, formerly known as The Botel, is located between Picketty Ruff Walk and Harbor Walk on the western side of the Fire Island Pines harbor.

The main rendering above looks south at The Tryst Fire Island from the perspective of a Sayville ferry entering the harbor. The company’s logo is displayed in pink letters across a dense open-air wooden screen that extends the full height of the building. This assembly will take the place of the previous set of outdoor staircases. White paneling, metal wires and railings, room numbers, and a new set of larger windows are shown across the outside. The wraparound walkway on the top level will sit below a pergola-style roof to allow sunlight to shine through.

The below photo shows the three-story structure as it appeared in early August 2024. Dark blue tarps that once lined the white railings across the edges of the walkways were removed just before exterior and interior renovation work began to unfold.

Below are examples of the guest rooms. All 30 rooms will have ensuite bathrooms, improving upon the aging shared arrangement of The Botel.

The below aerial perspective shows the overall layout of The Tryst Fire Island and the neighboring buildings surrounding the harbor. A new outdoor seating layout, revamped landscaping, and an ADA-accessible ramp will also be created in front of a retail space called CAMP Flower Shop. The latter will be a standalone structure separated by a new walkway connecting to the Pool Deck.

The Waterfront at The Pines redevelopment will bring several additional changes and facility upgrades. The Blue Whale will undergo a restoration next year, which will include the preservation of the historic mosaic dance floor—home of the very first tea dance in 1966— while a second story and expanded covered spaces will be added. The Pavilion nightclub will be reimagined in 2026 with visuals yet to be revealed. The Pool Deck will be fully revitalized and open to the public more frequently with additional parties and events. In addition, The Gym will be upgraded in 2026 and expanded to better serve guests and residents.

Further aspects include the forthcoming implementation of sustainable landscaping using native plants and greenery to obscure views of operational areas such as waste disposal.

The Tryst Fire Island’s eco-conscious design and policies include using no plastic water bottles, and establishing partnerships with local minority-owned businesses.

“Fire Island Pines has been a haven for queer people for generations—home to the very first Tea Dance, and where LGBTQ+ culture has been shaped and celebrated,” said Tristan Schukraft, founder and CEO of Tryst Hospitality. “Honoring this history isn’t just about nostalgia; it’s about preserving the spaces and traditions that have always been vital to our community. As we evolve for the next generation, we have a responsibility to protect what makes The Pines special while creating new experiences that keep it thriving.”

The Tryst Fire Island is anticipated to open sometime later this year.

  3. I like the original building better. And the memories…

  4. Huge improvement and done well and to scale. Well thought out, too. Hope it all gets built.

  5. Fire Island is an amazing place but it doesn’t really look like they are expanding room/guest capacity which is a real shame.

  6. The rooms will probably start at $495 per night in high season (Memorial to Labor Day) for the project to pencil out.

  7. It’s still The Pines .

Spent many nights at the Botel. I’m thrilled to see that the structure is being upgraded. Not demolished. How amazing is that.

Fire Island Pines is a unique and amazing location. I’m glad that it’s being saved for future generations to come and enjoy the natural beauty this island has to offer.

Thank you for respecting the past and rebuilding the future for our LGBTQ community!!!!!! Bravo!!!!!!! Bravo
