Permits have been filed for a six-story residential building at 554 East 191st Street in Fordham, The Bronx. Located between Hoffman Street and Bathgate Avenue, the lot is closest to the Fordham Road subway station, served by the B and D trains. Aaron Yaghoobian of Mercer Co. is listed as the owner behind the applications.

The proposed 55-foot-tall development will yield 19,064 square feet designated for residential space. The building will have 28 residences, most likely rentals based on the average unit scope of 680 square feet. The concrete-based structure will also have a cellar, sixth floor rooftop terrace, and a 20-foot-long rear yard.

Nikolai Katz Architect is listed as the architect of record.

Demolition permits have not been filed yet. An estimated completion date has not been announced.

    I am surprised that Fordham U. has not been acquiring properties like this adjacent to its campus.

    • Probably because they don’t really need to expand their footprint. The Rose Hill campus already has plenty of room to expand if thet want to.

      • Not remotely true. And the previous commenter is right, it is very shortsighted of Fordham not aquire properties on that section of 191st Street

    • Politicians are the problem. Nearby New York Botanical Gardens tried (on Webster Ave) and had all kinds of “affordable housing” demands placed on them. That said – a lot of the new rental buildings in Belmont cater directly to Fordham students. As to academic buildings – my guess is they want to keep those on the closed in campus…

  2. The lot is closest to the Metro-North station. The B/D trains are a 12-15 minute bus ride west. The 2/5 are also a 12-15 minute bus ride east.
