Renderings have been revealed for 556 New Lots Avenue, a proposed six-story charter school in the New Lots section of East New York, Brooklyn. Designed by IMC Architecture and developed by Bermuda Realty, the 105-foot-tall structure will span 49,385 square feet. The school will occupy 46,066 square feet and have a capacity of 500 students. The project will also contain 3,318 square feet of commercial space and a cellar level. The property is located at the intersection of New Lots and Van Siclen Avenues.
The renderings show the steel-framed superstructure with a straightforward massing incorporating a fifth-floor setback that wraps around the northwest corner. The façade will be composed of beige brick surrounding a grid of windows with black metal frames and spandrels. The main entrance will sit beneath a canopy topped with shrubbery along New Lots Avenue.
Light fixtures between the window grid will illuminate the façade at night.
New tree-lined sidewalks will surround the property.
A green roof and two bulkheads will cap the superstructure. Though only mid-rise in height, the building will stand out prominently among the low-rise neighborhood.
The property is currently occupied by a one-story commercial structure.
The nearest subway from the ground-up development is the 3 train at the elevated Van Siclen Avenue station over Livonia Avenue.
556 New Lots Avenue’s construction is estimated to cost $18 million. A construction timeline has yet to be announced.
