Construction has begun on the full redesign of McGuinness Boulevard in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Led by the New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT), the project will extend existing parking-protected bike lanes between Meeker Avenue and Calyer Street north to the Pulaski Bridge.
Once complete, McGuinness Boulevard will include one travel lane, one parking-protected bike lane, and one curbside parking and loading lane in each direction.
NYC DOT said the project is intended to shorten pedestrian crossings, slow turning vehicles, reduce reckless driving, and improve safety for cyclists, pedestrians, and drivers. The agency expects construction to be complete by early fall.
The McGuinness Boulevard corridor connects to the Pulaski Bridge, which links Greenpoint with Long Island City in Queens.
