Spring has brought a jump to new construction across New York, and that’s particularly visible along the High Line. Superstructure work is almost complete at 500 West 30th Street, Related’s 32-story residential tower, designed by Stern. The New York Times reports that another tower will soon just to the building’s west, at 530 West 30th Street.
Major progress is also visible at the Avalon West Chelsea, where the mid-rise portion has reached its unofficial pinnacle with the installation of a water tower. What’s been built so far is quite dominating, as the Avalon nearly spans the entire block. The crane for the development’s ‘tower’ component—which will rise 30 stories—is now up, adjacent to Eleventh Avenue.
Finally, work is wrapping up on Related’s affordable development at 529 West 29th Street. For ‘affordable’ housing it’s not bad, with an innocuous brick facade—the building will be completely surrounded by taller developments, as well.
