Rapid work continues at 432 Park Avenue, and the tower is well on its way to taking the title of New York’s tallest building from One World Trade Center. 432 Park Avenue’s core now rises 279 feet — a fraction of its future 1,398-foot pinnacle, but tall enough to begin making an impact on the local cityscape. More impressive is the building’s exoskeleton, which is beginning to look more palatable despite the grey-streaks that appear to be permanent; its raw, concrete form certainly isn’t the alabaster-white indicated in renderings, but it has an edgy, minimalist appeal that is — if nothing else — unique.
The first panels of 432 Park’s glass also seem to have appeared, though there is a protective covering over both windows. The 10′ by 10′ panes are both massive and unprecedented, promising perfect views from each of the tower’s 89 floors, though unobstructed views begin at the 50th floor.
432 Park Avenue’s owner Harry Macklowe visited the site recently, and the photo-set — posted at Robert Caplin Photography — shows just how massive each of the building’s floors and windows will be. Standing inside the exoskeleton, a human figure gives proper perspective on the scale of the tower, and the floor-to-ceiling heights at 432 Park are far greater than any building in the vicinity.
Since the last update on the tower, from early May, the building has gained just over 60 feet in height.
