Just as developer Toby Moskovits tries to secure approvals for her spec office building at 25 Kent Avenue, her nine-story Williamsburg Hotel is getting windows and corten steel facade panels at 96 Wythe Avenue, near the East River waterfront.
When we last checked in on the building in May, it was mostly a concrete shell, but now about two thirds of the building has windows. The hotel will reach 109 feet into the air between North 10th and North 11th Streets and feature a rooftop bar inside a water tower. Overall, the complex will offer six bars, 160 hotel rooms, and medical offices on the second floor.
Although these square footages don’t seem particularly accurate, the latest set of building permits says the project will have 43,515 square feet of community facilities and 10,178 square feet of commercial space.

The first floor will be devoted to a 28-space parking lot and an outdoor cafe, followed by doctors’ offices on the second floor and 30 hotel rooms each on the third through seventh floors. Besides the water tower bar, there will be two bars off the lobby, a “seasonal” restaurant and bar on the second floor, a rooftop bar with a pool, and a lounge-style one in the cellar.
Moskovits’ Heritage Equity Partners is developing the project. Zelig Weiss is also listed on the permits but apparently no longer involved. Weiss is working on the space age-style William Vale Hotel up the block. We don’t know who’s handling the design, but David Salamon Engineering filed the permits.

And around the corner, excavation is kicking off for the first New York outpost of the London-based Hoxton Hotel chain. By 2017, this industrially zoned swath of North Williamsburg will have at least five hotels: the William Vale, Williamsburg Hotel, Hoxton Hotel, McCarren Hotel & Pool, and of course the Wythe Hotel.
