A hotel boom is taking over the Bronx. Today we noticed plans for a hotel in the northwestern corner of the Bronx, in the working-class Norwood neighborhood. The six-story commercial building would rise at 3466 Webster Avenue, next to the Williamsbridge Metro-North Railroad station.
The building would have 47 hotel rooms squeezed into 15,929 square feet of commercial space, for a typical room measuring 340 square feet. Each of the first five floors would hold seven to 10 rooms, followed by a 3,200-square-foot community facility on the sixth floor.
The cellar would include a few budget hotel amenities, like an exercise room, business room, and breakfast area, plus a laundry room.
The developer is North Bergen, N.J.-based Nehalkumar Gandhi. He’s planning three other Bronx hotels in Longwood, Belmont, and Soundview, in addition to ones in Manhattan’s Lower East Side and Ocean Hill, Brooklyn. Michael Kang Architect will handle the design.
Gandhi picked up the 12,000-square-foot vacant lot for $950,000 in April. The property sits just south of Gun Hill Road and backs up to the Metro-North stop. It’s also about a 10-minute walk from the Gun Hill Road stop on the 2 and 5 trains and a 12-minute walk from the Norwood stop on the D train.

Most likely being developed to be homeless shelters.
Could be – since the community has fought against the city trying to push those and “low income housing” into the area. That said – the Rodeway Inn is a budget hotel further down on Webster and it does legitimate business. I know the Botanical Garden put out an RFP for a more upscale one on a piece of property they own there.
Didn’t I see on your site the other day about another hotel just down the road on Webster? I just hope they are “real hotels” and not undercover was to sneak homeless shelters into these working class areas. In any event Montefiore is right there – the Harlem line on Metro North goes to Grand Central. Plus even “working class” people get visitors from out of town who need hotel rooms. In any event – looks like construction is picking up on Webster Ave. since the rezoning.
I think it goes without saying this will be a by-the-hour hot-sheets motel (a so-called “no-tell motel).
Those usually don’t have work out rooms and laundry facilities.
