A new design is out for the six-story building coming to 3 East 3rd Street, just around the corner from New York’s historic Bowery, the oldest thoroughfare still in use on Manhattan. The corridor has been subject to a recent revival thanks to steady redevelopment with emphasis on the area’s cultural significance over the past few decades.

The building is positioned in an overlap of the East Village and the Bowery. Barrett Design is responsible for the development.

Barrett is also responsible for the design, which has changed quite a bit since the first renderings were revealed. It has shifted away from the prior thick white-paneled grid to a more conventional Miesian design. The brushed bronze paneling resembles the two structures rising not too far from 3rd Street, at Essex Crossing.

YIMBY first reported on the applications in September 2016, but permits were only approved this past March. The 65-foot tall structure will yield 17,400 square feet, with 10,330 square feet dedicated to residential use, and 3,140 square feet for ground-floor retail.

Five apartments will be created, averaging 2,066 square feet apiece, indicating large condominiums. Tenants will have access to a lobby and storage. The penthouse unit will have a private roof terrace.
