Permits have been filed for a 21-story mixed-use high-rise at 153-19 Jamaica Avenue, in Jamaica, Queens. The neighborhood has seen a spike in new development since the city announced an action plan to stimulate the local economy. The site is two blocks away from the Jamaica Center subway station, serviced by the E, J, and Z trains. Brooklyn-based BFC Partners will be responsible for the development. The firm is most notable for being part of the joint ventures responsible for the redevelopment of the Bedford Union Armory and Essex Crossing.

The 222-foot tall structure will yield 130,600 square feet, with 99,090 square feet dedicated to residential use, and 5,240 square feet for ground-floor commercial retail. 139 apartments will be created, averaging 710 square feet apiece, indicating rentals.

Tenants will have access to a variety of amenities. These include a rooftop terrace, multipurpose room, computer room, children play center, lounge, laundry, accessory storage, and a bicycle parking facility. Also included on site will be a mailroom, lobby, and leasing office.

GF55 Partners will be responsible for the design.

Demolition permits have not been filed yet for the existing art-deco building. Developers have not responded to questions asking whether the design will be preserved or used as inspiration. The estimated completion date has not been announced.
