On Monday, YIMBY reported that One Vanderbilt’s crown is now structurally finished. Only two days later, the rest of the spire is almost complete for the 1,401-foot high supertall, designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox and developed by SL Green. Remaining sections for the 100-foot-tall spire have arrived on site, and were spotted on the eastern side of the property along Vanderbilt Avenue, as the initial components were lifted into place and installed atop the tower yesterday afternoon. Full completion of the spire is likely later today.
Peering through the construction fence shows how tall the upper component of the spire is. The scene is similar to when the final section of One World Trade Center’s architectural spire was carefully delivered and lifted into place just over six years ago.
This has been a significant week, and summer, for One Vanderbilt. The speed of construction is unprecedented for modern office towers in New York City, and compares to the Empire State Building’s completion nearly 90 years ago. YIMBY’s July update with the preview of the observatory only showed the crown just beginning to rise above the first setback, where the future outdoor portion of the observatory will be located. The spire marks an obvious material contrast to the rest of the crown.
Completion of One Vanderbilt is expected to happen sometime next year.

What a week this has been. First the Central Park Tower, and now One Vanderbuilt! Thrilling. Congratulations and thank you for reporting.
Going up so fast..l guess that tower crane rental is expensive:)..seriously, l like this building a lot.
This building falls short in so many ways to the point of being nothing but a cliche.
Care to elaborate?
No
Why are New Yorkers always so snarky and negative? Beautiful buildings filled with multitudes of miserable unhappy assholes!! So it seems..
Give me a break! Too true for the NYT!!
I think they finished it – I see from my window that the spire has already been illuminated in a rich blue color.
Indeed, saw same thing tonight!
Wasn’t One Vanderbilt originally supposed to be 1,501′?
