Construction is nearing topping out on Hunters Point South’s ‘Parcel G,’ a 33-story mixed-use tower at the southern tip of the Queens waterfront. Developed by Gotham Organization and designed by Handel Architects, the property will include 443 residential units, of which a portion will be designated for affordable housing, as well as a lower-level community facility. The site is located by the intersection of 2nd Street and 56th Avenue.
Recent photographs from across Newton Creek show the top floors being formed as construction workers assemble the red brick façade on the lower levels. The western elevation is slim and flat, while the opposite side incorporates a number of setbacks. The southern profile also appears mostly flat and features a wide grid of square windows.

The rendering below shows a previously iteration of Parcel G and its overall appearance. A much taller structure with a slanted roof line is depicted to rise on Parcel F, which is now under construction.

Hunters Point South is in the midst of a construction boom with nearby projects like ODA‘s 52-03 Center Boulevard and 52-41 Center Boulevard underway, bringing a total of 1,194 units to the neighborhood. The closest subway to the development is the 7 train at the Vernon Boulevard-Jackson Avenue station, while the Hunters Point South ferry terminal is also nearby next to Hunters Point South Park.
It is estimated that the new tower at Parcel G will be completed sometime in late 2021.

Like the other buildings in this project, it’s not very beautiful or anything, but it’s not bad either. I do kind of like the shapes of these buildings but this one is probably the most boring. But it’s okay nevertheless. But what’s even sadder is its name, Parcel G. They ought to find a better name for this building eventually…I hope.

Not true. The tower crane for the other tower in this development has been up for weeks, which means foundation work must already be done or close to done.
