Construction is nearing the halfway mark on 50 Trinity Place, a 28-story Hotel Indigo in the Financial District. The 77,310-square-foot tower will yield 173 hotel rooms and is designed by Peter Poon Architects and developed by FIT Investment Corporation, which purchased the Lower Manhattan property in 2012 for $15 million. The site is located at the corner of Trinity Place and Rector Street, diagonally across from Trinity Church.

Recent photos show the edifice having reached the 12th floor. The plethora of wooden formwork is helping in the assembly of the reinforced concrete superstructure, whose relatively small floor plates should ease the speed of progress. It’s possible that 50 Trinity Place could top out sometime toward the end of the spring or in early summer. As the structure rises, several of the openings in the perimeter walls are being fitted and framed to hold up the windows. The exterior hoist along Rector Street is steadily climbing up the northern side of the building, while sidewalk scaffolding is built above the façade facing Trinity Place.

The renderings show the structure culminating with a mostly flat roof parapet with the exception of a minor mechanical extension above the roof line. The curtain wall is depicted as a mixture of white and dark gray panels between a grid of floor-to-ceiling windows, some of which appear to be double-height sections along the corners of the floors. A sweeping white canopy cantilevers from the eastern and northern walls of the ground floor, conjoining and bending upward at the corner entrance that leads to the main lobby of the hotel. Whether or not all these external design finishes will be realized is uncertain, as the renderings may not be up to date.
At this point YIMBY estimates that 50 Trinity Place could be completed sometime in early 2022.

I thought this was an Aloft Hotel, not a Hotel Indigo. I’m pretty sure there’s a Hotel Indigo in the area that is being designed by Gene Kaufman. Is this a mistake on YIMBY or did something happen at this site? Just curious.

Will be a nice homeless shelter… isn’t New York turning all hotels into homeless shelters these days? I would be wary now if any “hotel” is built in my neighborhood.
