Pickeleball America, set to take over a vacant retail space at the Stamford Town Center shopping mall, could soon debut as one of the largest pickleball venues in the world. Located at 140 Atlantic Street in Stamford, Connecticut, the 80,000-square-foot space was formerly leased by Saks Off 5th, which closed in 2021.
While negotiations for the space are wrapping up, co-owners Jay Ross and Jay Waldner have revealed a new batch of renderings and formal plans for the two-floor facility. This includes 28 pickleball courts, lockers, showers, a podcast booth, a small guest lounge, and a cafe. The owners also plan to open the space to professional pickleball leagues and associations, coaching for private and group instruction, corporate events, and community groups.
“This is the best possible reuse of a large retail anchor space in a mall!” said Mia Schipani of Houlihan Lawrence, the firm representing Pickleball America in lease negotiations. “What is most exciting about this deal is [that] we are changing the purpose of malls, especially since most shopping takes place online, and we are making the Stamford Town Center a major destination.”
Construction will commence in two phases and is expected to debut this spring.
