The Durst Organization has opened a new 100-percent affordable housing property at 3-24 27th Avenue in Astoria, Queens. Designed by Dattner Architects, the 14-story building is located within the Durst Organization’s Halletts Point mega-development, which will eventually comprise seven buildings, 1,920 market rate apartments, and 480 affordable housing units along the East River waterfront.
This latest component features 163 apartments, including units for New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) tenants, formerly homeless residents, and low-income community members. Amenity spaces include a fitness room, a tenant lounge, and a laundry room.
Monthly rents range from $665 for a studio up to $1,601 for a two-bedroom unit.
As part of the development, the Durst Organization also completed improvements to NYCHA’s Astoria Houses project located adjacent to the new building. This included upgrades to the property’s heating system, refurbished outdoor areas, and the construction of a new supermarket.
When complete, Halletts Point will comprise more than 2.4 million square feet of developed area.
