Excavation is unfolding for Hendrix House, a 12-story residential building at 429 Second Avenue in Kips Bay, Manhattan. Designed by DXA Studio and developed by New Empire Corp., the 150-foot-tall structure will span 44,571 square feet and yield 59 condominium units and a suite of Paris Forino-designed amenity spaces. CORE Real Estate is handling sales and marketing and New Empire Builder Corp. is the general contractor for the property, which is located at the corner of Second Avenue and East 25th Street.
Recent photographs show crews working below street level, with a significant amount of dirt already removed from the site. The reinforced concrete foundation slab and walls should likely begin to be formed toward the end of the summer, followed by the emergence of the superstructure near the end of the year.
The rendering from the main photo was recently posted on site for the development and depicts the eastern elevation facing Second Avenue. The façade is composed of light gray brick framing an orderly grid of rectangular floor-to-ceiling windows lined with bronze paneling in a staggered pattern up the height of the structure. Setbacks on the top two levels will make way for private terraces lined with glass railings, and a rooftop terrace with seating and planters alongside a small mechanical bulkhead. The main entrance is positioned at the base of the rounded northeastern corner.
Residential amenities will include an outdoor garden, coworking space, conference and media rooms, and a fully-equipped fitness center with a steam room and sauna.
409 Second Avenue’s anticipated completion date is scheduled for the winter of 2024, as noted on site.
