107 North 1st Street Nears Completion in Williamsburg, Brooklyn

Construction is nearing completion on 107 North 1st Street, a five-story commercial building in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Designed by Melamed Architects and developed by 107 North First Street Realty, LLC, the structure will yield 18,000 square feet of office space above ground-floor retail frontage. Vintage Home, Inc. is the general contractor for the property, which sits on an interior lot between Berry Street and Wythe Avenue.

Recent photographs show the grid of oversized industrial-style windows installed on the main southern elevation and covered in blue protective film while interior work continues. YIMBY last reported that the space will feature loft-style workspaces and exposed brick interiors. Other façade components include gray-colored paneling and the metal framework for a long canopy across the first level of the building.

The below Google Street View image shows the conditions at the property before its office conversion began. This particular section of North 1st Street is currently seeing a swath of its of old low-rise warehouses and aging structures being either knocked down or remade into new residential, retail, and office properties.

The following renderings from our last update in 2018 show a rooftop structure with climbing vegetation along the southern perimeter of the building, an element that was scrapped from the final design. The actual fifth floor is set back from the sidewalk and will feature a landscaped outdoor terrace.

The nearest subway from the property is the L train at the Bedford Avenue station to the northeast.

107 North 1st Street is slated for completion this fall, as noted on site.

So glad the rooftop element was scrapped as proposed. It would have looked like a bombed out floor.
Otherwise, a nice little building that improves the neighborhood.

  2. Looks like the next door neighbor lots its’ ornate cornice in the lest few years. This seems to be a theme today.

Still a firm believer the city should have a DOB incentive program to prevent parapet mutilations/cornice removal and encourage restoration as a result of the five year façade inspection requirements.

  3. Completely agree with NFA above. Scalping prevention should be made a codified law. It is an assault on our collective aesthetics.
