The affordable housing lottery has launched for 420 West 42nd Street, a 40-story residential building in Manhattan‘s Midtown West. Designed by Hardy Holtzman Pfeiffer Architects and developed by The Brodsky Organization in 2000, the structure yields 210 residences. Available on NYC Housing Connect are 14 units for residents at 130 percent of the area median income (AMI), ranging in eligible income from $78,858 to $198,250.

Amenities include pet-friendly policies, bike storage lockers, a shared laundry room, gym, doorman, concierge, and an outdoor terrace. Residences come with air conditioning, hardwood floors, walk-in closets, and stainless steel appliances. Tenants are responsible for electricity.

At 130 percent of the AMI, there is one studio with a monthly rent of $2,300 for incomes ranging from $78,858 to $146,900; nine one-bedrooms with a monthly rent of $2,700 for incomes ranging from $92,572 to $165,230; and four two-bedrooms with a monthly rent of $3,800 for incomes ranging from $130,286 to $198,250.

Prospective renters must meet income and household size requirements to apply for these apartments. Applications must be postmarked or submitted online no later than April 2, 2024.

  1. This is one of the ugliest buildings in New York. Be that as it may, why are 14 units available now, 24 years after the building was first occupied?

  2. Structures don’t yield residences. They contain, they have, they could consist of or they could even feature, but they don’t yield. Sorry, I know this is just a blog and “Vanessa Londono” is just the name for a content template, but proper English is one of my pet peeves. When you try too hard to sound smart you end up sounding stupid.

    I have always liked the horizontal bands of Art Moderne buildings. I wish my plain brick box from the 1950s had darker bricks to minimize the window voids. However, this building calls to mind some sort of insect.
