Demolition Progresses at 1140-1152 Second Avenue on Manhattan’s Upper East Side

Demolition is complete at 1140-1142, 1146-1148, and 1152 Second Avenue, a collection of former low-rise buildings on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. The properties are part of a set of seven adjacent buildings that Sean J. Lavin of Townhouse Property Group and Lavin Development has sought to raze to make way for an expansive new structure spanning most of the block between East 60th and 61st Streets.

Recent photographs show five of the seven buildings razed to street level, beginning with 1140-1142 Second Avenue at the corner of East 60th Street, followed by two more consecutive buildings at 1146-1148, and culminating with 1152 at the northern end of the assemblage. The structures at 1144 and 1150 Second Avenue remain standing in between, though demolition permits were filed for the former last December and the building is currently blocked off by construction fencing, suggesting its razing could be imminent. It is currently unclear whether the developer has secured ownership of 1150 Second Avenue, and the property remains fully occupied.

The nearest subways from the site are the 4, 5, 6, F, N, Q, R, and W trains at the 59th and 63rd Street stations along Lexington Avenue. The tram to Roosevelt Island and ramps to the Queensboro Bridge are also located directly adjacent to the property.

No construction timeline nor plans for the forthcoming structure at 1140-1152 Second Avenue have been announced at this time.

This location is not suitable for building entertainment venues, such as shopping centers or movie theaters: Thanks.

  3. Tent it and make a waiting area for RI tram passengers. The line has become insane.
