Exterior work is progressing on 100 South 9th Street, a six-story residential building in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Designed by Archimaera Architecture for Michael Weitzman of Spearhead Contracting, the 32,999-square-foot project involves the partial demolition and repurposing of the Epiphany RC Church and will yield 45 rental units with an average scope of 733 square feet. The development will also include a 15-foot-long rear yard and seven enclosed parking spots in the cellar level. The property is located between South 9th and 10th Streets.
Recent photographs show the new construction topped out around the salvaged towers of the former church. The new volumes appear to be enclosed in a thick gray cementitious façade with beveling around the floor-to-ceiling windows, rather than the more elaborate white framework shown in the rendering above. The lot line walls above the upper setbacks are mostly blank and clad in darker gray EIFS.
The following images show the southern side of the project along South 10th Street, where wooden sidewalk fencing blocks off the back side of the red brick church. Restoration work has yet to commence on this elevation.
The below Google Street View images show the church before work began.
The rendering in the main photo previews the finished look of the main northern elevation. The church towers will be retrofitted with expansive floor-to-ceiling windows with protruding frames, and the upper levels of the new construction will feature setbacks with terraces lined with glass railings. The parking garage entrance will be positioned at the northwest corner of the building and is shown decorated with a colorful mural.
The nearest subways from the property are the J, M, and Z trains at the Marcy Avenue station to the east.
100 South 9th Street’s anticipated completion date was slated for fall 2024, as noted on site. YIMBY expects construction to conclude in the latter half of 2025.

thats…something
I guess not every recycling and repurposing projects will be a great success. Why couldn’t they just Leave the Towers Alone?! Hopefully they won’t make similar mistakes on South 10th Street side, which is unique and delightful just the way it is.
What little they saved now looks just weird and sad.
