The Toll Brothers’ 30-story condo project at 959 First Avenue has topped out and is starting to get its brick facade. The 90-unit tower launched sales last month, and now YIMBY reader Tectonic has photos of its contextual exterior.
Designed by Goldstein, Hill and West and Incorporated Architecture and Design, the building will feature a five-story base covered in dark brick and 25 stories clad in a lighter, “roman-style” brick, according to the development’s website. The Sutton, as it’s known, promises to bring new life to a sleepy block in Turtle Bay. Its attractive architectural details were influenced by the 1920s Art Deco buildings one block away on Sutton Place, particularly One Sutton Place South, Incorporated’s managing director told the Times last month.
The development fills a long-vacant, 150,000-square-foot hole between 52nd and 53rd Streets, where Alexico Group first planned to build a 161-unit rental building in 2007.
The structure stands 333 feet tall, and has 6,500 square feet of ground floor retail space, followed by 29 stories of apartments. The ground floor will have an interior courtyard and a lounge with a fireplace, and the top three stories will include a triplex and penthouse duplex.
Asking prices start at $959,000 for a 570-square-foot studio and go all the way up to $11,750,000 for a four-bedroom triplex with its own pool. Out of the 34 apartments listed, 21 have already entered contract, according to StreetEasy. Construction is expected to wrap sometime in late 2016.
