Work is wrapping up on the short yet classic 61 Fifth Avenue, designed by Alta Indelman. The 10-story building will contain three 5,000 square foot duplex apartments and a 7,000 square foot triplex, in addition to ground-floor retail. With only four units, the development is the definition of boutique luxury, especially as each unit is so massive—warranted by the site’s prime location.
The building was built with context in mind, which is more than most private developments offer; Greenwich Village is already one of the city’s most expensive neighborhoods, and ‘affordability’ along Fifth Avenue is not a hot-button issue. The brick and limestone facade is an apt tribute to the building’s surroundings, unlike the bronze-clad New School expansion across the street. Per Manhattan Scout, completion and occupancy are scheduled for later this year.
