The pace of construction has picked up considerably in Midtown, with several new projects now approved or actually getting built. Among these new buildings will be 1715 Broadway, which will be the tallest building solely used as a hotel in New York upon completion. Located on the corner of 54th Street and Broadway, the new hotels (two will occupy the building) promise to bring added vibrancy to an already active neighborhood.

Designed by Nobutaka Ashihara and rising 753 feet in height, 1715 Broadway will contain two hotels by Marriot (a Residence Inn and a Courtyard), with approximately 300 rooms each. Despite the new building’s 68 stories, only rooms on the upper levels will likely offer prime views as the area is incredibly dense already. The Courtyard will be located on floors 6 through 32, while the Residence Inn will be from floors 36 through 64.

While views are clearly important for the upper floors, the main reason the two hotels are being built is the same as most new buildings in New York–location, location, location. 1715 Broadway will be in the heart of Midtown, but the area just to the West has become extremely active in recent years, with dozens of new bars and restaurants opening along 9th Avenue. The new building will take advantage of proximity to the Theater District as well as Hell’s Kitchen, where the tourist presence has increased dramatically as the area has improved.
