Located between Liverpool Street and Sutphin Boulevard, the corner lot is near the Jamaica LIRR train station and the Sutphin Boulevard-Archer Avenue subway station, serviced by the E train. More than 130 hotel units are coming to East New York according to new construction permits recently filed by hotel developer Nehalkumar Gandhi. Located between Fulton Avenue and Atlantic Avenue, the two projects at 51 and 55 Sheffield Avenue will have convenient access to multiple mass transit options. The LIRR East New York station is four blocks away, as is the Atlantic Avenue subway station serviced by the L train.
On the southern edge of Brooklyn’s Cypress Hills neighborhood, just above the blocks constituting East New York and Brownsville, an under-utilized lot at 2718 Fulton Street is about to be redeveloped with a new hotel. Building applications for the site were filed by Michael Kang Architect, P.C., and show a new structure rising ten floors and totaling 29,694 square feet of commercial space. That will be divided between 100 rooms, for a fairly small average size of only 296 square feet. The location is very atypical for hotel development, possibly indicating it may become a homeless shelter after completion, as has occurred in similarly-sited projects in other Outer Borough neighborhoods. Nehalkumar Gandhi of 2722 Fulton LLC is listed as the developer, and the lot lies two blocks west of the J and Z train stop at Van Siclen Avenue.
A rendering has been spotted on the construction fence of the development site at 97-01 Waltham Street, in downtown Jamaica. An eight-story, 58-key hotel project is planned, per the latest building permits. The new building will measure 31,346 square feet and rise 85 feet above street level to its roof. Guest amenities include a fitness center, a business center, two off-street parking spaces, and storage for five bikes. There will also be a 2,379-square-foot “social club” on the ground floor. Nehalkumar Gandhi’s North Bergen, N.J.-based LLC is the developer and Gerald J. Caliendo’s Briarwood-based firm is the architect of record. Completion is currently scheduled for 2017.
