The Dime’s Glass Installation Nears Completion, at 209 Havemeyer Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn

The installation of the outside envelope on all levels of “The Dime” in Williamsburg, Brooklyn is nearing the finishing mark. The topped-out, 23-story mixed-use complex is located at 209 Havemeyer Street and stands close to the elevated Marcy Avenue subway station. Fogarty Finger Architecture is in charge of designing the new building, which rises behind the 111-year-old, landmarked Dime Savings Bank, while Charney Construction & Development and Tavros Holdings are developing the 350,000-square-foot complex. Douglas Elliman is handling leasing, JLL is the commercial broker, and Ripco is handling the retail component.

“The Dime” is a new, mixed-use complex in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The 23-story project recently topped out, and is located at 209 Havemeyer Street. The building stands out among the surrounding blocks. It is easily visible when coming into the elevated Marcy Avenue subway station, and today, YIMBY has a full update on progress, as well as photos of the views from the top of the new tower.

277 South Fifth Street Closing In On Final Floors Above Williamsburg, Brooklyn

Dubbed “The Dime,” 277 South Fifth Street will be a new 264-foot tall residential tower in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The reinforced concrete building is close to topping off behind the Dime Savings Bank landmark. The project sits on a 50,000 square foot site, almost an acre in size, and will span just over 350,000 square feet.

Williamsburg is an incredible tapestry of diverse architectural styles. One of the most prominent examples of its historic past is the Dime Savings Bank of Williamsburgh, located right by the first exit of the Williamsburg Bridge into Brooklyn, which ensures that hundreds of thousands of people see it every day. The building is about to be reborn thanks to Charney Construction and Development and Tavros Capital Partners, with a full restoration and refurbishment planned for the Bank, adjacent to which a new 22-story residential tower will also rise.

The redevelopment of the Dime Savings Bank in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, will result in one of the neighborhood’s tallest buildings, and today YIMBY has fresh renderings for the project, designed by Fogarty Finger Architects. Yesterday, The Real Deal reported that Charney Construction & Development and Tavros Capital Partners have acquired a $150 million loan to fund construction and renovation work on the historic bank and new 22-story tower. The developers purchased the site in March of 2016 for $80 million.

In April 2014 we interviewed developer Sam Charney of Charney Construction and Development. Among other things, he spoke about Long Island City’s 11-51 47th Avenue, now known as the Jackson. Since then, we have followed the building’s progress, starting when the site was cleared at the end of 2015 up until its recent topping-out. Today we revisit the project with Charney and the building’s architect, Chris Fogarty of Fogarty Finger.

In YIMBY’s recent rundown of Long Island City development, we tallied seventeen structures of eight stories and above that have topped-out in the Court Square area within the past twelve months. It appears that The Jackson, which is taking shape at 11-51 47th Avenue, will be the next to join the list. The structure doubled in size between August 15th and the start of October, growing from five to ten floors, so we expect to see the remaining penthouse floor and the service bulkhead rise in the coming weeks. The 53-unit condo project is being developed by Charney Construction and Development, in conjunction with Ascent Development and Tavros Capital, while the industrial-inspired design was crafted by Chris Fogarty of Fogarty Finger.

11-Story, 55-Unit Mixed-Use Building Rises Above Street Level at 11-51 47th Avenue, Long Island City

Construction is underway on the ground floor of the 11-story, 55-unit mixed-use building being developed at 11-51 47th Avenue, in the Hunters Point section of Long Island City, located on the corner of 21st Street and Jackson Avenue. The construction can be seen in photos in a post by The Court Square Blog. Dubbed the Jackson, it will eventually measure 70,000 square feet. It will feature 1,226 square feet of retail space on the ground floor, followed by one- to four-bedroom condominiums on the floors above. On average, the apartments should measure 962 square feet apiece. Amenities are to include a fitness center, a children’s playroom, a residents’ lounge, a rooftop terrace, storage for bikes, and a 22-car parking garage. Charney Construction & Development, Ascent Development, and Tavros are the developers, while Fogarty Finger is behind the design. Completion is expected in early 2017.

New Details For 11-Story, 56-Unit Residential Project At 11-51 47th Avenue, Long Island City

In August of 2014, YIMBY reported on applications for an 11-story, 56-unit residential building at 11-51 47th Avenue (a.k.a. 13-33 Jackson Avenue), in the Hunters Point section of Long Island City, located directly above the 21st Street – Van Alst Avenue stop on the G train. Then last December, YIMBY reported that excavation was imminent following the demolition of the site’s former two-story warehouse. Now, the New York Times has the latest details on the Fogarty Finger-designed project, which will be clad in exposed concrete and industrial-esque windows. We also have a few words from Chris Fogarty himself, Director of Fogarty Finger.
