Back in 2013, a group of Chinese investors closed on two big development sites just north of Columbia University in West Harlem for $6,600,000. Now they’ve filed plans to develop the property on West 126th Street between Amsterdam and Morningside Avenues. New building applications call for a 16-story residential building at 418 West 126th and a nine-story hotel at 412 West 126th. The two structures may not be physically connected, but they have been filed as one project.

Steel Rises at Harlem Whole Foods, 100 West 125th Street

Nothing symbolizes Harlem’s transformation better than the start of construction on the Whole Foods at 100 West 125th Street, which has been in the works since 2012. Harlem+Bespoke spotted foundation work in April, and now Tectonic has sent along some shots of the latest progress.

Five-Story, Two-Unit Residential Building Planned At 498 West 130th Street, Manhattanville

Melody Development has filed applications for a five-story, two-unit residential building at the vacant lot at 498 West 130th Street, in Manhattanville, a few blocks east of the 125th Street station for the 1 train. The building will measure nearly 3,900 square feet, with one unit occupying the ground floor and the second spanning floors two through five. Ashraf Ali, head of Architectural Design Solutions, is the applicant of record.

Permits Filed: 17 Convent Avenue, New 21-Unit Building Coming to West Harlem

Despite improvements in recent years, parts of Upper Manhattan are still smattered with vacant lots, but yet another will soon be turned into an actual building. Permits were filed today for a 7-story residential structure at 17 Convent Avenue, on the southeast corner of Convent and 128th Street, just to the south of City College.
