Video of BIG’s Monstrous West Side Pyramid

While renderings already exist for BIG’s planned Pyramid at 57th Street, here’s some high-quality video of the project as well. The footage gives the audience an excellent idea of how the building will look from a variety of perspectives.

The project is definitely polarizing, with some hailing the design as revolutionary. Abstract architecture is fine if the projects aren’t prominent, but the Pyramid is going to be on the Hudson River, forever an integral part of the New York skyline when viewed from New Jersey. The jury is out on how the final product will look, but the potential for a dreadful monolith definitely seems real.

At least no-one will complain about the building breaking the street-wall on 57th Street, as it’s a direct 500 foot ascent from the sidewalk to the building’s roof. Dominating, imposing, and monotonous–unless of course you happen to live in the structure.
