The LIC Marriott and Residential Tower at 29-07 Queens Plaza North is effectively complete on the exterior, and the last glass panes have now been installed on its eastern facing facade. At 31 stories tall, it is now among the five tallest topped-out buildings in central Long Island City.
A 29-story, mixed-use building is set to replace two smaller ones at 842 Seventh Avenue, on the corner of West 54th Street, a few blocks south of Central Park.
It’s not every day that you see preservationists speak out against designating a new landmark, but that’s what happened on Thursday as the Landmarks Preservation Commission held a public hearing about designating Union Square Park a city scenic landmark. The LPC is continuing its process of dealing with its backlog of 95 items that have been on the calendar since before 2010. Thursday was the first day to deal with properties in Manhattan.
Last month, a rep for Extell told the NY Post that all images of Nordstrom Tower released so far are inaccurate, which is especially confusing considering some of the images came from documents produced in-house at the firm. But the PR doublespeak is technically correct, and YIMBY can now confirm that there has indeed been an additional tweak to the plans, and the country’s future tallest building (by roof height) has been scalped of its spire.
While residential development booms at either end of the Bronx, new construction has been slow to arrive in many of the working class neighborhoods in the central part of the borough, like Mount Hope, Tremont, and Crotona Park. But yesterday YIMBY noticed a filing for three little apartment buildings at 362-366 East 173rd Street, half a mile east of the 174th Street stop on the D line in Concourse Village.
