The views from the upper floors of the Woolworth Building have been seldom seen since its construction, but now that the tower is partially transforming into residences, YIMBY has an inside look at what New York City looks like from the top of one of its oldest and most iconic Downtown skyscrapers.
The future 1,550-foot-tall Central Park Tower, aka 217 West 57th Street, is making rounds again in the real estate world with the first seven publicly listed units now arriving on the market. Extell is one step closer to a projected $4 billion sellout for what is now the tallest building in New York City by roof height, as the supertall closes in on Chicago’s Willis Tower for the title of tallest in the Western Hemisphere, by roof. Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill are the architects of the glass tower. Interiors for the 179 residences are being designed by Rottet Studio.
Construction on WeWork’s behemoth Midtown building is halfway complete, marking a major milestone for the conglomerate’s newest location just steps from Hudson Yards. Originally completed in 1930 by Sears Roebuck & Company, the commercial development will comprise nearly 412,000 square feet of office space at the corner of Ninth Avenue and West 31st Street.
YIMBY recently toured The Overlook, the top-floor, double-height penthouse lounge at The Amberly in Downtown Brooklyn. Also known by its address, 120 Nassau Street, the newly completed, 33-story rental building is designed by Woods Bagot Architects and developed by AmTrust Realty, with interiors by BHDM Design.
On the heels of the topping-out of The XI’s second tower, YIMBY attended the official ceremony for the milestone hosted by the project’s architect Bjarke Ingels, offering a first look at the sweeping views from the top of the complex. The 908,250-square-foot development stands next to the High Line in Chelsea and is now the tallest set of buildings in the neighborhood. The first 30-story skyscraper sitting closer to the Hudson River reached the 402-foot-tall roof parapet last year. The shorter 20-story, 300-foot-tall sibling climbed to its pinnacle just a couple weeks ago. HFZ Capital Group is the developer of the project. Omnibuild is in charge of constructing this new icon for New York City.
