Renderings released by The Obserber for 105 West 57th Street can be described with one word: balconies! The sliver-sized residential tower will soon rise on the same block as One57, and will be
just shy of 700 feet tall.

The tower’s side facing 57th Street is actually aesthetically pleasing (besides at the very top), and it almost looks like a miniature One57. Really, the image of this and One57 on the same block makes each tower look quite futuristic, especially when juxtaposed with neighboring pre-war architecture.

Unfortunately the building’s side facing Central Park is an abomination. The defining feature is the large number of balconies protruding from the building’s backside. Balconies aren’t always terrible (just most of the time), but in the renderings they make what will likely be an ultra-luxury tower look extremely cheap.
The architects of the project are Cetra/Ruddy.

I have to agree about those balconies on the park side.
Balconies at that altitude are really a silly frill anyway, since they tend to be very windy and hence very little used.
If the developer and architect feel they must have them as a differentiator or whatever, then a design in which they’re kept within the building’s skin would likely be much more esthetically pleasing.
