Construction Update: 1715 Broadway & 237 West 54th Street

Glass is still rising on 1715 Broadway, and it’s looking better and better. The city’s tallest all-hotel building stands just over 750 feet tall. The facade has reached the 600 foot mark, already surpassing the neighboring and also nearly completed 250 West 55th Street.

In other news, 237 West 54th Street is still naked. The second photo is taken from one block to the south of the building, on 53rd and Broadway. It proves just how invisible this tower will be–you can barely see the construction netting sticking up between 1715 Broadway and 250 West 55th. That will probably be a good thing. The nature of Kaufman’s cheap work means that most, but not all of his projects are small enough to be lost in the skyscraper forests of Manhattan.

  1. I’ve always felt this tower was vastly underrated. Though it isn’t the tallest, it is slender, well-massed, and soars for its location. In a way, it stands out while still fitting in.

  2. I think it accomplishes what you’ve said well, as it can’t really stand out too much given the relative height of the neighborhood. That being said, it will be completely dwarfed by 225 West 57th, which will be only three blocks to the north.
