Located at 21 India Street, The Greenpoint sits right off the India Street ferry terminal along the East River. Isolated from the cluster of new towers rising on the waterfront by the Williamsburg Bridge and Greenpoint Landing to the north, it is the tallest skyscraper in the neighborhood. Designed by Ismael Leyva Architects and developed by Mack Real Estate Group, the 39-story residential development is almost complete and will have 500 units composed of condominiums and rentals. The entire 392-foot tall project is set to span 454,502 square feet.

The glass envelope is basically complete along with all the reflective balcony panels and railings. The exterior construction elevator has since been disassembled. Now, work on the interiors and the bottom floors are in progress. Development of the playground, the porte-cochere, and landscaping in the front of the building should soon follow. This external section of the property will act as a buffer from potential storm surges. They are being designed to protect the main lobby and the 30,000 square feet of amenities on the first few levels of the tower that include a pool hall, indoor and outdoor co-working spaces, a basketball court, and yoga studios.

There is also going to be an exterior landscaped garden on the roof of the building podium called “The Greenpoint Gardens.” Large open patios, dining areas, outdoor and indoor terraces, a sun deck, multiple lounges, greenery, and water features will soon come. Another extra perk of living at the building is being able to enjoy front row seats of the Macy’s Fourth of July fireworks. Residents can either sit by the waterfront or have the experience of seeing it from their balconies when the annual celebration takes place on the East River.

The Greenpoint was expected to be finished last year but has been unknowingly delayed for some time. A completion date in the latter half of 2019 may still be possible. The large sales gallery for The Greenpoint is located just around the corner at 114 Franklin Street, just a short walk from the construction site.

  1. Please pardon me for using your space: I started seeing design on the tower as I want to underline it on progress. All the way closed to me by facade and balconies. I got serious about it, it’s beautiful. (Thanks to Michael Young)

  2. Nice building on waterline of Brooklyn and Queens border. First Greenpoint “skyscraper”, but not last!!!! 5 of 5 stars for this 39 story project with 5 story wings. 392 feet, just 100 feet less than minimum cutback for international skyscraper height!!!

  3. The sales gallery at 114 franklin has been closed for at least 2 months, and the space was emptied.

  4. What was your source for (completion in) “2019 may still be possible“?

  5. This ugly hulking mass is awkwardly positioned to blot out a good portion of the afternoon sun and skyline views of the surrounding modestly scaled neighborhood. It is cheaply constructed and sits right in the middle of a flood zone. Super Storm Sandy brought forth 12 feet of storm surge. This silly micropark amenity, the lobby and higher would be devastated by another storm.
