Recently released renderings from Starling Architecture reveal a forthcoming venue space at Fulton Ferry Landing Pier in DUMBO. The proposed site is located within Brooklyn Bridge Park and would be the second new concession on the pier.
The Fulton Ferry Landing Pier dates back to 1642 and facilitated the first ferry service between Brooklyn and Manhattan. In the mid-90s, the pier was temporarily closed, refurbished, and reopened in 1997.
Given the proposed venue’s location within the historic district, Starling Architecture will need to secure approvals from the Landmarks Preservation Commission. Should the commission approve, the locale is expected to be fully operational by the summer of 2019.

The new, single-story venue would connect to an existing shed that once housed fire hoses used by the Marine Fire Station, a structure still located on the pier today. The existing hose shed would be refurbished where needed, repainted in its original colors, and receive updated roof shingles. The façade features 11-foot-tall hydraulic doors that can swing open to create an open-air experience during warmer weather. Within, the architects have designed a stylish bar and dining establishment with a full kitchen and restroom facilities.

Given that this is in an historic district, it would be nice for the new design to have more of an echo of the past or something that felt more rustic rather than yet another stark, sterile modernist mediocrity. It seems that contemporary architects are only capable of churning out these kinds of neo-Miesian messes.
At yesterday’s hearing, at least 3 LPC commissioners felt that no new structure belongs on the pier. Others were concerned with the color or the choice of material. LPC sent them back for revisions.
Thanks Bill!
To say nothing of the fact that they’ve replaced a low-key outdoor cafe with another pricey concession for 1%ers. The cafe was operated by the late great Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory. The new one by the owners of the pricey seafood barge off Pier 6. Would that the BBP Board actually looked out for Park users.
The Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory is coming back to a nearby location. Stay tuned!
Lol the BK Ice Cream Factory? That wasn’t cheap at all, give me a break. We don’t need anymore ice cream places.
The reference was to the Buzz Bar under the tent compared to the prices at the oyster bar boat. As for the Ice Cream Factory, the quality of the ingredients far surpasses the competition. Ample Hills is inferior ice cream.
Hopefully at least 25% of this units be provided to hard working families that still lives in the area . And I believe that providing parking spaces for the renter is a great idea so the area wont be over crowded with so many cars … some families have 2 and 3 cars which at present time we dont have space to park at imagine after those new apartments comes up . !!
