The glass curtain wall on 7 West 57th Street’s main southern elevation is finished. Work is nearing completion on the 19-story mixed-use residential building, designed by Hill West Architects and developed by Solow Realty & Development Group, which purchased the property 14 years ago for $25,550,000. Vidaris is the envelope consultant for the 237-foot-tall project.

Photos below show the nearly finished exterior of the reinforced concrete superstructure. The partially exposed blank wall that nudges up against the side of Skidmore Owings & Merrill’s 9 West 57th Street, aka the Solow Building, was recently painted white and has a few finishing touches left. The eastern elevation that rises above the Phillips Auctioneers building at 3 West 57th street has yet to be painted.

7 West 57th street is located between Fifth Avenue and Sixth Avenue along Billionaires’ Row. The property sits across the thoroughfare from a major upcoming development by Solow Properties, which is in the midst of demolishing a number of old buildings between 10 West 57th Street and 20 West 57th Street. One of the brick and stone buildings has already been razed and another is starting the demolition process. The remaining properties have been vacated. However, no word has been released on what that new structure will look like.

Hill West’s new residential project is situated in close proximity to a number of shops along Fifth Avenue such as Bergdorf Goodman, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Tiffany & Co., and more.

Completion of 7 West 57th Street is likely sometime early next year.

“Old buildings”: Do you mean the beautiful and graceful buildings that dignify the street (on Google street view one of them has the Metropolitan Club in it)? I hope not. Please be more specific so I can be shocked and appalled that New York cares so little for it’s streetscape or history.
