Final Touches Underway for NoMad’s New Tallest Tower at Madison House, aka 15 East 30th Street

Madison House, NoMad’s tallest residential skyscraper at 126 Madison Avenue, appears to be almost finished. The topped-out, 805-foot-tall structure is also addressed as 15 East 30th Street. Fosun Group and JD Carlisle are developing the 62-story tower designed by Handel Architects. Douglas Elliman is handling sales and marketing of its 199 condominiums.

The exterior of the edifice is substantially in place. The construction crane that stood on the slender southern elevation is fully disassembled and crews are filling in the perimeter where it once was attached. The hoist on the northern end is still up but should be taken down once interior work is finished. Only the bottom floors, which are enclosed with high cinder block walls, await the installation of the signature white curtain wall paneling.

Tectonic took a few close-up photographs showing the subtle architectural details. The sleek lines and etched panels in between the floor-to-ceiling glass are best seen on the wide eastern elevation along Madison Avenue.

The last part of the property to be constructed is the 7,500-square-foot ground-floor retail space that would extend from the footprint of the edifice and sit at the corner of Madison Avenue and East 30th Street. This is shown in previous renderings. Right now this is the staging area and means of getting to the construction hoist.

The closest subways from the site are the 4, 5, and 6 trains at the 33rd Street station. Madison Square Park is a five-minute walk to the south.

An exact date for the completion of Madison House has not been announced, though it looks like things could wrap up before the end of the year or early 2021 at the latest.

  1. Looks very odd. It doesn’t fit the area. Poor design.
When does the auction start ?

  2. Any plans for those decrepit, largely empty apt buildings around it? They seem they are falling down on their own!

  3. Ugly filler.

I work next door to the new tower and am very familiar with the surrounding blocks. These photos are focused on the new building and not meant to do justice to the older building stock surrounding it. Many of those decrepit-looking buildings in the photos are actually quite nice when you’re there in person.

A big part of Nomad’s charm is the mix of old and new. Here’s hoping it stays that way.
