Federal Realty Investment Trust is leading a full redevelopment of Huntington Shopping Center, a major retail destination in Dix Hills, Long Island. The scope of work includes the construction of a new Whole Foods Market, enhancements and repairs to the existing surface-level parking lot, the installation of benches and public seating, and three new vehicular and pedestrian entrances.
Located at 350 Walt Whitman Road, the shopping center spans 21 acres and was constructed in 1962. Since then, capital improvements have been limited in scope. These latest proposals are still under review by Huntington officials, the town affiliated with the hamlet, Dix Hills.
Total redevelopment costs hover around $75 million.
“Bringing Whole Foods to this location jumpstarts a long-awaited redevelopment of Huntington Shopping Center,” said Mark Brennan, VP of regional development at Federal Realty Investment Trust. “With our investment, we’ll reinvigorate the destination and deliver on our aim to provide essential retail at convenient locations with services and shopping to benefit our community.”
Beyond the new Whole Foods Market, each storefront will receive new signage, lighting fixtures, and façade repairs. Additional retail tenants include PetSmart, Ulta Beauty, Tilly’s, and Michaels, all of which will remain open during construction.
Vacant open spaces at the shopping center, referred to as pad sites, will also be prepared for potential construction in the future.
Construction is expected to wrap by the end of 2024.
