Construction is nearing the halfway mark on H Hotel W39, a 28-story hotel tower at 58 West 39th Street in Midtown. Designed by Peter F. Poon Architects and developed by Wei Hong Hu of H Hotel LLC, the 447-foot-tall structure will yield 65 rooms spread over 41,500 square feet along with meeting rooms and a fitness center. City Cross Construction Corp. is the general contractor for the property, which is located on a narrow plot between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, just one block below Bryant Park.

The reinforced concrete superstructure has continued to rise steadily since our last update in early January, and has begun to surpass the parapets of the adjacent buildings. The structure will soon cantilever out over its neighbor to the west.

The edifice’s repetitive stack of floors has allowed it to rise at a steady pace, but progress will likely slow down once construction begins on the cantilever. The upper section will feature tapering floors and rounded corners, culminating in a curved glass crown.

The façade is depicted with floor-to-ceiling windows interspersed with metal spandrels, and the blank eastern elevation will be clad in reflective paneling. The crown will be semi-exposed to the elements.

The nearest subways are the B, D, F, M, and 7 trains at the 42nd Street-Bryant Park station.

A revised completion date for 58 West 39th Street has yet to be announced, though sometime in 2023 is possible.

  1. Horrific. Top to bottom. Side to side and front to back.

  2. If this building turns out to be anything like the renderings, then I don’t think this building should be too bad. However, the building is still just a concrete bust, so I can’t really say anything yet.

    • The cantilevers aren’t great, though.

    • Then why did you say something……and, if it’s not an intelligible objective critique (positive or negative), whats the point of “I like it”? Are there “great” cantilevers and what constitutes a good one over a bad one? sheesh.

Well, at least the stupid setback means the cantilever was also kept back too. A lucky mistake.

  4. The best thing that can be said about this “hangover” 😩, is that the vintage “hat sign” is visible
    on the adjacent building! 😊
