Aloft Hotel’s Façade Nears Completion at 50 Trinity Place in Financial District, Manhattan

Exterior work is nearing completion on 50 Trinity Place, a 28-story Aloft Hotel in the Financial District. Designed by Peter Poon Architects and developed by FIT Investment Corporation, the 77,310-square-foot tower will yield 173 guest rooms. Cauldwell Wingate is serving as the general contractor for the project, which is located at the corner of Trinity Place and Rector Street, diagonally across from Trinity Church.

Construction has progressed steadily since our last update in March, when the podium and mechanical extension remained covered in black netting and scaffolding and most of the broad northern elevation was still awaiting installation of its metal façade paneling. The former has been removed, revealing the flat, dark surface of the lower levels and the horizontal metal grilles that envelop the crown. Sidewalk scaffolding still obscures the ground floor, but should be removed in the coming months as work above concludes.

Work has yet to begin on the curved canopy that will cover the entrance on the northeastern corner, the most noteworthy design feature shown in the main rendering.

Horizontal beams protrude at two-story intervals on the upper floors, breaking up the flat surface.

The hotel is located amid a plethora of significant destinations, including the World Trade Center complex and the Westfield mall in the Oculus to the north, the southern stretch of Broadway and Wall Street to the east, the Hudson River esplanade along Battery Park City to the west, and nearby access to ferries to the Statue of Liberty, Governors Island, and Staten Island. The site is also in close proximity to a host of subways, with access to the R and W trains at the Rector Street station located directly in front of the property.

50 Trinity Place is estimated to be finished sometime around the end of this year or in the first few months of 2023.

  1. The base hardly looks like it belongs to the rest of the tower. The tower itself is also kind of bland and mediocre.

  2. The kind of gross that doesn’t leave you mad, just resigned dissapointment. Cheap, boring, insensitive… So easy to design something attractive… Instead… This.

  3. The rot starts with the architect…

  4. I don’t think this building will age well. The flat black panels on the base are already getting streaky.

  5. Well, looks like the Financial District now sports a big pile
    of “POON”?! 🤔🤣😂🤣

  6. Looks like a cheap Holiday inn
